Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief during the installation of an underground electricity supply for the Morritt Arms Hotel. The site lies adjacent to the Scheduled Monument comprising Greta Bridge Roman fort, part of the associated vicus and a section of Roman road. Excavation of a narrow open trench, 50m in length, to a depth of c. 600mm below ground level, was monitored. The trench ran through a field west of Brignall Lane. A stone surface of possible Roman date was recorded along with a probably associated stone wall, running NW-SE. |
