Abstract: |
Wardell Armstrong Archaeology was commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation on land at Riverton Road, Puriton, Somerset (Centred on ST 3176 4166). This work was required to provide information in support of a planning application for a proposed residential development at the site. The archaeological evaluation was undertaken over 8 days from the 15th to the 24th October 2014. The evaluation involved the excavation of 16 trenches, totalling 880.5m2, 3.16% of the c.2.8ha development area. Archaeological remains were identified in Trenches 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 12 and 13, in the form of ditches and gullies. In Area 1, there were two ditches were observed in trench 1 and one ditch was partially visible in trench 2. In trench 3 there was a possible ditch terminus or large pit. In Area 2, there was four ditches of which two appeared to be terminals in trench 8. In Area 3 there were two ditches in trench 12 of which one continued across the area and was visible in trench 13. |
