Abstract: |
Trent and Peak Archaeology was contracted on behalf of CgMs/Davidsons to undertake a targeted Archaeological Strip, Map and Sample exercise required by Nottinghamshire County Council as a condition of a successful planning application. Topsoil stripping revealed a number of north to south orientated scars in the subsoil which are interpreted as post medieval plough scars associated with an open field system. A further three linear features were observed, which can be interpreted as field drains, one of which appears to have been removed previously. A small quantity of artefacts were recovered from the topsoil and subsoil, including 20th Century pottery, animals bones, iron artefacts and ceramic building material of varying post medieval to modern date. |
