Abstract: |
A survey was undertaken of medieval ridge and furrow and later earthwork features at three locations in the parish of Quarrendon, to the northwest of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in advance of works for the Berryfields Major Development Area (MDA). The results of the field survey are depicted in a series of scaled plans and profiles.A written account considers the significance of the earthworks and, wherever possible, their spatial chronological relationships. The report is accompanied by a gazetteer of the monuments, illustrated where appropriate by digital photographs. The earthworks comprised the remains of medieval to post medieval cultivation ridges, headlands, five penannular enclosures, two hollowways, various hollows with adjacent mounds considered to to be backfilled quarries; and a system of post medieval drainage. |
