Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out on 4 July 2014 using a tracked machine with ditching bucket. Part of the area for the proposed buildings was covered by a watching brief in 2009 (Peters 2009 b) and some of the roads are upgrades of existing tracks. The ground for the new buildings is rough and stony and there has been much dumping of angular granite quarry waste from the historical quarrying at the site. The topsoil was shallow over the whole area with sand subsoil and numerous large waterwashed boulders as well as dumped granite blocks. No archaeological finds or features were recorded and it is therefore recommended that no further archaeological work is required during the current development at the site. A Cameron 2014. |
