Abstract: |
A pre-determination geophysical survey of the majority of the development area was carried out. The survey identified little in the way of archaeological features. The farmstead was subject to an archaeological standing building survey. The evaluation area occupied a field immediately to the east of the farmstead focusing on the areas which were unsuitable for the geophysical survey. Five trial trenches totalling 150m² were excavated. The remains of a shallow linear feature were revealed in Trench 5. No date or function could be ascribed to it and no other archaeological remains or deposits were revealed. An archaeological watching brief was undertaken to monitor the groundbreaking associated with demolition of the farmstead including the grubbing up of the foundations. No evidence for any archaeological features or deposits predating the recently demolished farm building was identified. |
