Abstract: |
A building survey was undertaken at Mains of Inveramsay prior to the demolition of the mid-late 19th-century steading. A stone-walled dung court was enclosed by large ranges on three sides and a smaller building at the front. The buildings were of good stone-walled construction with slate roofs. Although some modernisation had taken place, there were a number of original features. In the S range a wood-lined chaumer survived over the former gig shed and feed store beside the stables. The W range, which had been a tied cattle shed had been opened out as a cattle court. In the N range some details of the threshing mill remained. Part of the steading had been built before the 1st OS map of 1867 but it was largely restructured by 1891 when an estate plan for Legatesden Estate had been drawn. J C Murray 2015. |
