Abstract:		 An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Terrain Archaeology in January 2002, during the construction of a new Care and Custody Unit in HM Young Offenders Institution, Portland, Dorset (SY702723), by Richardsons (Nyewood) Ltd. Traces of a former prison building, probably dating to the late 19th century, were uncovered. No other archaeological features or deposits were encountered.
