Abstract: |
This geomagnetic survey was carried out following a desk based assessment (Tees Event 913). The survey was carried out with a Bartington Grad601-2 dual fluxgate gridiometer on a zig-zag traverse with a sample rate of 0.25m and traverse interval of 1m. The survey revealed evidence of a sub-rectangular enclosure with internal features consistent with round houses (Tees HER 8098). This is partly overlain with a well defined, double ditched enclosure (HER 8099) the inner ditch of which is particularly square. To the south east is a more complicated series of cropmarks with strong affinities to a Romano-British settlement and field system (Tees HER 8311). The survey also includes evidence for further ephemeral features, geomorphology and plough trends. The survey area around HER 8311 was extended in October to fully characterise the anomalies in this part of the site. |
