Abstract:		 A Watching Brief was carried out to observe and record the excavation of two foundation trenches for a single story extension to the rear of the 268 Old Kent Road. The investigation revealed that underneath the existing concrete slab there was a post-medieval horticultural layer. This in turn sealed a layer of Roman date and a possible roadside ditch from which a comparatively large amount of ceramic building material and work stone was recovered.
