Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology in January 2014 revealed the remains of the outer precinct wall of Merton Priory. In total a 7.50m long (north-south) section of the wall was uncovered in the southern portion of the site. The precinct wall appears to have been rebuilt either in the late medieval or early post-medieval period as was evident from the remains of a slightly later wall following the same alignment albeit 0.20m to the west of the earlier precinct wall. In addition to the remains of the walls a number of post-medieval surfaces and postholes were recorded. |
