Abstract: |
In July 2011, an archaeological evaluation was carried out on land at 1 Friars Walk and The Chestnuts, Dunstable, Bedfordshire, in order to inform planning proposals for the site. the evaluation revealed several shallow post holes, which are likely to date to the post medieval or later periods, and a complex of pits that contained a single sherd of medieval pottery. However, the complex of pits was cut from below the subsoil, suggesting that the medieval pottery was residual, and the features had a more modern date. The results of the evaluation support the theory that the site lies outside the boundaries of Roman and medieval settlement in Dunstable. |
