Abstract: |
A programme of building recording has been carried out in advance of the proposed redevelopment for residential use of redundant farm buildings at Colepike Hall farm, south-west of Lanchester in County Durham. It is concluded that, while the buildings survive well and are of local interest as surviving examples of 19th century stables and farm buildings, there are no traces of earlier structures surviving on the site and those currently present are not exceptional either in architectural design or detail. It is recommended that the features of note within the outer walls of the structures should be retained as part of any redevelopment programme, but it is acknowledged that it will be impractical to retain internal features and fittings as integral parts of the redeveloped buildings, amongst which only those pertaining to the stables in the main range are of any real interest. |
