Abstract: |
In order to characterise the archaeological potential of the site of a proposed new development on land to the rear of 2-6 Main Street, Hartford, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire; the Heritage Network was commissioned by Bewick Homes Limited to undertake an archaeological field evaluation. This work was a requirement of the planning consent granted by the local planning authority. The site lies on the western edge of the village of Hartford, which has 22 HER entries located within a 500m radius of the site centre. These range in date from the Palaeolithic to the modern period. Despite the defined potential of the site, archaeological investigation revealed evidence of gravel quarrying across the entire site which would have obliterated any earlier features or deposits that may have been present. |
