Abstract: |
Allen Archaeology Ltd (hereafter AAL) was commissioned by King West, on behalf of Tickencote Estate, to undertake a geophysical survey using magnetometry on land at Tickencote Lodge Farm in Lincolnshire. The aim of the survey was to identify any potential buried archaeological remains and to help inform plans for a high level stewardship scheme. The site is located within Tickencote Lodge Farm land and evidence for archaeological activity has been identified from crop marks and previous excavations. Towards the northern edge of site is a circular crop mark of a probable Early Bronze Age round barrow (Leics and Rutland HER ref: MLE5792), and to the south evidence of an Anglo-Saxon settlement including at least two grubenhauser or sunken-featured buildings has been identified (HER ref: MLE5796). To the west of the site is the Grade II Listed Tickencote Lodge Farmhouse (Listing Reference 187257). The farmhouse was built in the late 18th century of coursed, squared rubble with ashlar dressings, Collyweston stone slate roofs and stone end stacks. |
