Abstract: |
GUARD Archaeology Limited were commissioned to undertake an archaeological strip, map and record excavation in advance of sand and gravel quarrying at Douglasmuir Quarry, East Dunbartonshire, near Milngavie. A previous phase of work in the area now occupied by the quarry revealed the presence of potentially significant archaeological remains including several pits and spread/deposit features which date to the early Neolithic period. This second phase of work focused on the area immediately west of the current quarry site and revealed the presence of seven furrows indicating agricultural use of the landscape and two pits which may be related to the early Neolithic activity already known to be present.
