Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out by CFA Archaeology Ltd. at Red Gap Farm, Hartlepool, Co. Durham between 18 and 21 September 2012. A number of linear features possibly of archaeological origin were identified from a geophysical survey were targeted by six trial trenches. Although there are significant archaeological remains in the wider area and probable prehistoric archaeological remains in the area around Trench 1, the geophysical anomalies in the rest of the proposed development area have proved to be probable post-medieval or later field boundaries or natural in origin. The assessment of environmental samples showed only modern contaminants and no potential for further analysis. Apart from a number of modern shotgun cartridge casings no archaeological finds were identified anywhere on the site. |
