Abstract: |
An archaeological survey and watching brief was carried out following the installation of a temporary coffer dam c.46m south of the northern foreshore of the River Thames, adjacent to Baynard House. This entailed an initial survey following de-watering of the dam, followed by an archaeological watching brief on excavation works necessary to allow the installation of a second discharge point. Accumulated detritus of modern date, but containing early post-medieval pottery and clay tobacco pipe was recorded. This sealed a natural deposit of sediment and the river bed. |
