Abstract: |
An archaeological desk based assessment and watching brief was undertaken by CFA Archaeology Ltd on land at Holmes Mill, Burgh on Sands, Carlisle, Cumbria. The desk-based research identified two HER sites and medieval rig and furrow in the surrounding fields. A watching brief was undertaken in an area 60m × c.25m to the south of the Holmes Mill complex for the construction of two agricultural buildings. A ditch identified as part of an enclosure recorded as a cropmark (HER No. 9758) was excavated along with a large pit, though no finds were recovered and these features remain undated. |
