Abstract: |
Analysis of artefacts collected during fieldwalking in 2009 was undertaken on behalf of Hanleys' Village Society as part of a Heritage Lottery-funded project. Two areas were walked one either side of Quay Lane between the River Severn and Hanley Castle village. In both cases scatters of Roman, medieval (mainly later), and post-medieval finds were recorded, which all seemed to be low densities compatible with manuring during agricultural working. Though, when combined with the plot from geophysical survey, the possibility emerged of a correlation in one area (WSM 41750) with possible buried archaeological features, which could be usefully tested by trenching in the future. |
