Abstract:
In 1998 an archaeological evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group on behalf of Trencherwood Homes (now owned by David Wilson Homes) at the above site. In the 11 trenches excavated 6 features were recorded, of which the most interesting was a broad shallow cut filled with tightly packed stone. Following the evaluation work it was agreed to fully excavate the area around the stone to clarify its function and locate any associated features. The stone feature was identified as a Roman trackway. Five inhumation burials were also recorded as well as several pits, postholes and linear features, ranging in date from the Iron Age to the 3rd century AD.
