Abstract: |
The south range of buildings is U-shaped and dates from the mid-19th century. The large barn is to the north and lies on an east-west axis. the barn is flanked by east and west stable wings. The buildings are a fine exaple of a Palladian Revival style of architecture. The design of the buildings shows classical influences, from a triumphal-arched entrance to pyramidical hipped roofs, deep projecting cornices and pediments. The design and execution of the buildings are a reflection of their former high status and that of the former house (demolished in the 19th century) within the environment. A north range of buildings was added in the 19th century. These are single-storey cart and shelter sheds and show a purely functional nature through lack of decoration. |
