Abstract: |
In order to characterise the archaeological potential of the site of a proposed new development on land at Top Farm, Beadlow, Bedfordshire, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the owner to undertake an archaeological field evaluation by trial trenching. This work was a requirement of the planning consent granted by the local planning authority. Four trial trenches were excavated across the site, revealing natural sand overlain by subsoil and modern overburden and concrete. A single post-medieval/early modern wall was revealed in Trench 4. This was probably from a range of farm buildings shown on the 1883 Ordnance Survey map which may have been used as a malting at some stage. A single malting tile was recovered from within the area of the former building. |
