Abstract: |
Geophysical survey and the excavation of three trenches and five test pits were undertaken to examine geophysical anomalies and test the results of previous surveys carried out by Bournemouth University. Ditches, a hearth and possible land surface of Late Iron Age date were recorded, all sealed by colluvium. A later phase of Late Iron Age - Roman activity followed the deposition of the colluvium; a wall, ditch, hearth and post holes were recorded. These were sealed by more colluvial deposits. There was evidence of shale working and iron smithing in the Late Iron Age and early Roman periods. |
