Abstract: |
This report records and assesses the potential archaeological resource of a proposed development area, Stud Farm which lies within the historic core of Carlton, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The evaluation revealed drainage features probably associated with the establishment of the house and farmyard and extensive evidence for ploughing which probably started during the medieval period. The plough action has greatly reduced the site's archaeological potential and apart from Post Medieval (C18th/C19th) drains, no significant archaeology was revealed. The Photographic Survey has been able to record many surviving features of the original house and its associated buildings. The Archive will be deposited with Barnsley Museum and will become a publicly accessible document. |
