Abstract: |
A geophysical survey was carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd over the site of a proposed biogas plant at Quobwell Farm, near Charlton to the north of Malmesbury in Wiltshire. The results of the magnetometer survey show two parallel linear anomalies in the western part of the site that may relate to an undated linear trackway previously recorded from cropmarks. The site also contains a number of former field boundaries as well as several series of ridge and furrow cultivation. In the northern part of the site are a group of discrete positive responses, which appear to relate to pit-like features, some of which have a very high magnitude. Elsewhere, weaker discrete responses have also been located, but they lack a coherent morphology or pattern and may relate to natural pit-like features, or they may have been formed during agricultural activities. |
