Abstract: |
A Level 2 historic building recording was carried out by CFA Archaeology Ltd at 38a Church Street, Fenny Stratford. The work was undertaken on the 12th of October 2015 prior redevelopment of the property. The property comprises a former Fire Station fronting Church Street built in 1889, an extension to the rear, a garage, and outside toilets. The Fire Station retains much of its original fabric including side walls and the roof trusses which are supported on corbels. The front elevation has been re-built and the roof replaced in the mid-20th century, probably in WW2. The Fire Brigade moved to Bletchley in the early 1960s and after this date the interior of the main building was converted into offices and a floor inserted supported on steel beams. The extension to the rear is late 19th century in date and originally served as an office for the Fire Brigade. The garage is also late 19th century and was extended in the 1960s/70s. The outside toilets were early 20th century and 1960s/70s |
