Abstract:
A scheme of archaeological monitoring and recording took place during the construction of two wind turbines on land at Waddingham Grange Farm in the district of West Lindsey in Lincolnshire, this was done in order to satisfy a planning condition. The wind turbine site is approximately 900m from the early medieval settlement of Waddingham St. Mary. There are few recorded archaeological remains in the vicinity of the site, but it is within 400m of two probable Bronze Age barrows. The monitoring took place whilst the access road and turbine footings were excavated. This monitoring exposed two fairly shallow pits, neither of which contained dateable finds. Fragments of Roman pottery, however, were recovered from the plough soil suggesting that there had been some activity in the vicinity of the development area. No other archaeological features were identified during the course of the monitoring.
