Abstract: |
A watching brief for a new sealed cesspool unit took place at Porth Navas Quay, a small quay on the Helford estuary, dating from the mid to late 19th century. The works cut through ground originally made up to form part of the extent of the quay, though lying behind the part extending into the tidal waters, which is Listed at Grade II. The most interesting discovery of the watching brief is that the whole of the quay ground was made up, behind its stone faces, of clay, the low permeability of this material giving long-term stability to the structure built out into the creek. |
