Abstract:
A planning application to Kettering Borough Council for residential development on land off Higham Road, Burton Latimer was granted on appeal by the Secretary of State. The first stage of that work comprised intrusive archaeological field evaluation in the form of trial trenching. Artefacts indicate that it originated in the late 1st century AD and was occupied into the late 4th century AD. There is limited evidence for pre-Roman and post-Roman activity. Apart from ephemeral slots, which may be evidence for rectangular buildings, there was also evidence for a possible roundhouse. Such buildings are known to remain in use during the Roman period in this region. The pottery recovered from the investigations can be described as
