Abstract: |
A monitored topsoil strip was conducted as part of the ongoing programme of archaeological works related to the extension to Newbigging Quarry, South Lanarkshire. These works recorded a number of archaeological features including the western extension of the Neolithic cursus monument revealed during the 2009 and 2012 excavations. Furthermore, two isolated pits and a pit grouping that may continue further west was also recorded. These proved to be broadly similar in nature to the archaeological features recorded by excavations in 2007, 2009 and 2012 prior to previous extensions of the quarry. The excavation also produced a small assemblage of prehistoric ceramics. |
