Abstract: |
Archaeology Wales carried out an archaeological evaluation in August 2017 to examine the archaeological potential of a site intended for development at Plot 3, Manor Farm Barns, Leebotwood, Church Stretton, Shropshire. The proposed development site falls within an area recorded on the Historic Environment Record as previously containing earthwork remains of a number of building platforms of possible medieval date (HER PRN 03837). It is therefore possible that below ground archaeological features and deposits associated with the building platforms survive. Historic cartographic sources indicate that the south-eastern corner of the proposed development site was occupied in the later 19th century by an agricultural building of likely post-medieval date. One evaluation trench 15m in length was excavated within the proposed development footprint. There was no evidence within the trench for any archaeological features, such as medieval building platforms. |
