Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Southern and Scottish Energy (SSE) Power Distribution to undertake an archaeological watching brief during the groundworks associated with the installation of a terminal H pole at land south of Catherine Ford Road, Dinton, Wiltshire centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) SU 01023 31292. Dinton has medieval origins and earthworks have been recorded from aerial photographs within the area of the proposed development. The Assistant County Archaeologist at Wiltshire Council therefore advised an archaeological watching brief was maintained during the excavations to record anything of archaeological interest. A 10m long cable trench and three trenches for an H pole and its associated support stays were machine excavated under constant archaeological supervision. No archaeological features or finds were noted during the works and the locations did not impact on the earthworks within the field. The fieldwork was carried out on the 11th and 22nd of August 2011 |
