Abstract: |
In February 2016 Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned by Dr Brian Hands to undertake an archaeological watching brief associated with the groundworks for the erection of a single storey detached garage. A planning application had been granted by South Derbyshire District Council for the erection of a detached garage. A watching brief was carried out as a requirement of the planning permission to ensure that any potential archaeological remains encountered during the course of groundworks was recorded and interpreted prior to removal. Particular attention was given to any surviving buried archaeological remains associated with Medieval and post-medieval activity. The watching brief carried out during the groundworks for the erection of a garage revealed no archaeological features. Residual pottery from the topsoil ranging from the 18-20th century is likely to represent manufacturing waste from local potteries during the 18th-19th century potteries. |
