Abstract:
This CAU project complements a previous, separate HIA covering a proposed development site, which lies close to a Scheduled Monument protecting parts of a linear earthwork, Bolster Bank, less than 170m away at its nearest point. The supplementary HIA focusses on significance and potential impact with particular reference to Bolster Bank - both the SM, and an earthwork considered to be a more modified part of the Bank, in a Victorian cemetery adjoining the site. In the event that the planning application is successful, subject to the approval of the Planning Officer and agreement of a formal scheme of investigation, it is recommended that for a representative sample of the significant archaeological resource of the site, archaeological controlled soil strip should be carried out. It is proposed that provision could be made for archaeological study, interpretation, and if feasible local presentation, of Bolster Bank. The report also comments on plans for screening the site through planting.
