Abstract: |
Northwest Polmarth Farm is situated 0.6km to the west of Stithians Reservoir on the Carnmenellis upland in Wendron parish at NGR SW 70341 36037. This part of Cornwall is characterised by former miners' smallholdings and lies within the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site within the Wendron mining district. Having lain derelict for some time, planning consent has now been given for planning applications PA12/11259 and PA12/11258 by Cornwall Council for renovation and extension of the house for residential use and conversion of the barn to holiday accommodation. As a result of the conditions placed on the planning applications Natalie Harper commissioned CAU to provide a Written Scheme of Investigation. The requirements for an historic building record were agreed with Phil Copleston, Senior Development Officer (Historic Environment, Cornwall Council) . Northwest Polmarth Farm is a small farming settlement comprising a farmhouse and farm buildings. It was constructed in the mid-19th century at some point after 1843 and had been substantially extended by c1880. Since that time the buildings have undergone a few alterations but in general terms the historic buildings remain intact. |
