Abstract: |
A standing building survey of this farmstead was undertaken prior to its demolition. The documentary evidence suggests that in the late 19th century Broad Moss consisted of a dwelling and byre in a single range . Small sheds to the E completed the farmstead. At some point prior to 1900, the farm was transformed. A new freestanding 1 ½ storey farmhouse was built in the former garden. A horse mill and stable were built adjoining the original byre- with very similar stonework suggesting this was built at the same time as the house. A new building seems to have been built to replace the small earlier sheds. This is an interesting example of the development of a small farm; it is also a fairly unusual survival of a horse mill platform. |
