Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation comprising two trenches. The evaluation revealed limited modern impact on the buried deposits although the only archaeological deposits recorded were made ground layers dating to the late 18th - 19th centuries and an inferred late post-medieval truncation of the natural sand and gravel in Trench 1. Since no deposits above natural strata pre-dated the late post-medieval period within the trenches it was concluded that landscaping works had been undertaken either during the foundation or demolition of the 'Chelsea China' Porcelain Factory in the late 18th-19th centuries or during the construction of residences along Old Church Street from the 19th century onwards
