Abstract: |
This report details the result of an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd. on land at Ray Massey Way, East Ham, London Borough of Newham, E6 1JA. The work was commissioned by Jay Bee Ltd. Two evaluation trenches were excavated (Trench 1 and Trench 2) up to 1.00m below current ground level. Natural sand and gravel deposits were recorded in both of the evaluation trenches. Natural gravels were recorded in at 7.30m OD and 7.59m OD in Trench 1 and Trench 2 respectively. Natural deposits were overlaid by a sequence of post-medieval made-ground and cut by late post-medieval pits and linear features from the back yards of Victorian terrace houses which in turn were sealed by layers of modern made-ground and capped with tarmac which formed the current ground level. No archaeological deposits dating between the prehistoric and medieval period were observed during the evaluation. |
