Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief that was undertaken at Western International Market-New Trading Unit, Hayes Road, Southall, London Borough of Hounslow UB2 5YG . The aims of the project were to determine the presence of any previously unrecorded archaeological remains, and to identify if the evidence of multi-period activity and settlement found to the west extended into the development site. The watching brief demonstrated that the underlying superficial geology consisted of Lynch Hill gravels. The natural gravels were seen from 29.55m OD. No archaeological features of significance were identified during the watching brief, with the exception of ceramic land drains. It was clear that the previous use of the site as a car park had removed nearly all of the subsoil and much of the top of the natural gravel, and no archaeological features cutting into the gravel were noted. |
