Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by St Modwen Properties plc to prepare a Desk Based Assessment for land to the south of the A46, Evesham, Worcestershire, centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) 403802 241638. This study will inform a planning application for the proposed further expansion of business development at Vale Business Park, Evesham, to be submitted to Wychavon District Council. This assessment has established that there is an archaeological interest within the site, defined as the potential for the presence of buried archaeological remains, in particular relating to features of Iron Age or Romano-British date associated with the Scheduled Monument to the south. However, the presence, location and significance of any buried heritage assets within the site cannot be confirmed on the basis of the available information. As such, additional archaeological investigations will be required prior to development. In the first instance, these should include geophysical survey and archaeological trial trench evaluation, the results of which would inform the need for and scope of any subsequent works or mitigation within the site. The need for, scale, scope and nature of any further archaeological works should be agreed through consultation with the statutory authorities. |
