Abstract:		 A test pit evaluation was undertaken to support applications for the rebuilding of the fire-damaged hotel. One aim of identifying the bases of cellar walls was achieved. In non-cellared areas stratified deposits survived, dating from the Roman civil period through to the later post-medieval period.
