Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group prior to a residential development adjacent to Kirk Road, Aberlady, East Lothian. The evaluation consisted of 1385 linear metres of trenching across the development area. The topsoil on site was a dark grey sandy loam overlying a mottled orange, brown and pink sand or sandy clay. A ditch and large pit were revealed within Trench 1 that appear to have been cut into bedrock protrusions in the centre of the site. These may be associated with up to two stone wall fragments that have been heavily truncated by ploughing. Four iron objects including a large nail or bolt were found within the fill of the ditch but no other objects were found that would help to date these features. The remainder of the site was sterile of any significant archaeology, with only ceramic tile and rubble drains noted in the remaining trenches. |
