Abstract:
An archaeological appraisal was carried out to assess the likely effects of the construction of a permanent service road to Crossaig substation, Kintyre. this was followed by an archaeological watching brief undertaken by CFA Archaeology Ltd (CFA) in January 2015 during construction of the service road. The watching brief was located at NR 81858 48724. The work was commissioned by ASH Design + Assessment (ASH) on behalf of Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE). Stripping for the road was monitored as it passed through an enclosure associated with Gortancloiche farmstead which is shown on the 1st edition OS map. No archaeological features were identified within the enclosure though the make-up of the western bank of the enclosure was revealed.
