Abstract: |
Headland Archaeology Ltd were commissioned by Edinburgh Napier University to monitor excavation works associated with the maintenance of steps that passed close to the east side of Merchiston Tower. Archaeological monitoring was undertaken at the invitation of the client who wished to conduct best practice as the nature of the maintenance work did not require planning permission. The existing steps were removed and the ground beneath reduced by 1m. Modern made ground deposits were observed throughout the excavation. No archaeological or geological deposits were observed. |
