Abstract: |
A drainpipe in the NW corner of the courtyard of Castle Campbell had been blocked for some time. A watching brief was organised so that a trench or trenches could be dug to determine the location of the blockage. It was originally thought that the drain pipe exited through the N doorway in the W courtyard wall. Trench 1 was dug to test this. There was no pipe present. Trench 2 followed the drainpipe down in the corner of the courtyard. It transpired that the drainpipe had a soakaway directly beneath. The pipe had been blocked with masonry and pointing material from the renovation of the ticket office. The trenches were planned and photographed, and field notes were taken to record their contents. |
