Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation was conducted by Northlight Heritage at Humbie Road, Eaglesham, East Renfrewshire, on behalf of CALA Homes (West) Ltd. between 21st and 31st January 2013. Thirty four trenches, a total of 3919 m2, were opened across the proposed development area, equivalent to approximately 10% of the total proposed construction area. A total of three archaeological features were identified, occupying a vague natural terrace approximately in the middle of the site. Of these three were archaeological including 2 large pits, which produced burnt bone and charcoal, and a re-cut pit which contained green-glazed pottery sherds, of likely Medieval or post-Medieval date, in its upper fill. A fourth possible feature was investigated but proved to be non-archaeological. A limited programme of post-excavation archaeological analysis on the material and data recovered from these features is recommended.
