Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring work was carried out for North Ayrshire Council, in support of the renewal of the boundary wall to the Auld Kirk at Beith, North Ayrshire (Planning Ref: 17/00229/LBC). These archaeological works are designed to mitigate any adverse impact on the archaeological remains within the development area. This report covers the excavation of three trenches, one where the boundary wall was to be moved due to ground instability in the graveyard and two at the base of the wall where new wall props and buttresses were to be placed. The graveyard trench identified disarticulated human bone beneath four 18th century gravestones which seemed to have been moved from another location within the graveyard. The other two trenches contained no significant archaeological features or artefacts. |
