Abstract:
This report presents the results of an archaeological magnetometer survey. It has been prepared for Trevor J Spurway (Architect) Ltd., and was project managed by Oakford Archaeology. The magnetic responses across the survey area were sufficient to be able to differentiate between anomalies representing possible archaeological features and background magnetic responses. Four magnetic anomaly groups were mapped as representing potential archaeological deposits or features. Two of these groups represent a former field boundary and deposits associated with a former structure recorded on historic Ordnance Survey maps. The structure is recorded in the Somerset Historical Environment Record as a possible cottage or field barn (HER entry 43989). The other two anomaly groups may represent archaeological deposits or features such as fragments of ditches but recent a origin for each cannot be ruled out.
