Abstract: |
Following the unauthorised partial demolition of a small building within the pre-Improvement township of Craignavar (NN83SE 4), a scheduled ancient monument in Glen Almond, the clearance of debris and partial excavation of this structure was undertaken on 7-9 May 2018. The building measured 4.6m X 1.9m internally within walls of rubble masonry bedded in a matrix of sandy clay of which only a little survived. One end of the building was floored with cobbles into which was set a small socket for a timber that probably supported a partition. There was a drain at its other end to remove waste from what is thought to have been a small byre. |
